Glastonbury is a town in Hartford County, Connecticut, United States, founded in 1693. The population was 34,427 at the 2010 census. The town was named after Glastonbury in Somerset, England. Glastonbury is located on the banks of the Connecticut River, 7 miles (11km) southeast of Hartford. The town center is defined by the U.S. Census Bureau as a census-designated place (CDP). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 52.2 square miles (135.2km2), of which 51.3 square miles (132.8km2) is land and 0.93 square miles (2.4km2), or 1.76%, is water. The Glastonbury Center CDP has a total area of 4.9 square miles (12.7km2), of which 3.30% is water.
